The Great Commission
Our Gospel reading for this past Sunday was Mark 10, in which Jesus says to His disciples,
Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Children were very important to Jesus. He healed children, He touched children, and He loved them. He gave us the Great Commission, not only for adults but for children too.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19-20).
At Gloria Dei, our goal is to serve our children through their baptisms and through teaching. There are so many ways to teach children about Jesus, and our hope is to keep our programs dynamic and interesting while learning all about Jesus.
Gloria Dei recently launched our new Sunday School year with our Gloria Sunday celebration in September. The children start with a music class with our music director, Bonnie Rex. They sing, play instruments, and get moving. Then, they split into Sunday school classes by age group and have a story and crafts or activities with our Sunday school teachers. We have small classes where everyone knows each other, and parents are welcome.
We have also been reaching out to the Christian preschool families who go to Lil’ Country Christian Preschool. Lil’ Country Christian Preschool leases our Family Life Center for their preschool operations.
Every week on Wednesdays at 9:30am, Pastor has chapel in our sanctuary for the preschool children.
Every month, we are reaching out to them at pick up time with a chat with Pastor or our Sunday school teachers, Rachel and Maggie, and a treat. We hope this will help us to get to know the preschool families and learn better how we can serve them in the Lord.
We will be reaching out to the preschool families on October 24 with Halloween treats, and on November 28 with Advent calendars for the kids.
