Getting Ready for Lent

Getting Ready for Lent

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” (Galatians 4:4-7)

Dear Friends in Christ,

Before we know it, Lent will be here. Ash Wednesday is on February 14th. It will be a joy to once again walk together with you through these weeks of repentance for sin, and preparation for the celebration of Jesus glorious resurrection. Lent is a beautiful season to spend together. It is not easy to focus on repentance, but when we all do it together, we find it a time of community, a time of love in Christ Jesus.

Each year we have a special series of services on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Starting on Ash Wednesday we will begin a series on the 10 Commandments. It will be a good time for us to remember the important place that the Commandments have in the life of a Christian.

We will take time to ponder each Commandment and think about what God is teaching us. We will take time to think about how we have broken the Commandments and ask God for forgiveness. We will also take time to think about how we all as a body in Christ, can show love to each other in the light of these Commandments. But most important of all, we will remember how Jesus kept these Commandments perfectly, all the way to the cross, so that He might die in our place and give us forgiveness.

I hope and pray that you will be able to come to the evening services and soup suppers. It is a good time to grow in love for each other and to taste the mercy and forgiveness of Jesus.

In Christ,

Pastor Horn
